I am thrilled to introduce Philip Kinsella, a renowned medium, author, and paranormal investigator, to our Mystic Realm Blog readers. With years of experience and an impressive depth of understanding of the spirit world, Philip has been dedicated to seeking the truth behind what lies beyond our physical realm. His journey into mediumship began with a deeply personal experience that led him on a path to explore life after death, spirits, and the otherworldly. Below, Philip shares his insights and experiences in an exclusive Q&A that delves into his beginnings, his memorable encounters, and his profound insights into the supernatural. Let’s Dive into it….

How did you first discover your abilities as a medium, and what led you to work in paranormal investigations?
I first discovered my abilities in 1997, when my maternal grandmother had passed over to the other side. Myself, along with my identical twin brother, Ronald, had been very close to her and gone to see her a week before she died in a Somerset hospital. Waking in the early hours, (exactly a week to the dot!) I began to cry, knowing something had happened to my beloved grandmother. We had been in Kempston, Bedfordshire, and roughly 177 miles in distance. It was during this point when her voice came ‘inside’ my head, unmistakably distinct and clear, asking, ‘Why are you crying?’ She repeated this statement twice before the land-line rang. I was shocked! Her voice had been unmistakable! The call which came soon after the vision faded was the hospital informing us that Grandma had given up her battle with cancer. I then saw an image (an old photo we have) of my grandmother cradling both myself and twin in her arms as newborns. It was during this point when I sought the services of a really good medium who used to work on ‘Cold Cases’ for the CIA. She told me I had the gift and needed to explore it. She also told me that I would be back to see her in two years, and when my apparent inherent ability would manifest. Thinking about it, and as a child, I had varied so-called paranormal experiences, and I was able to join the dots, so-to-speak in acknowledging I had some form of extra-sensory ability.
Could you describe any memorable or intense experience during a reading?
Yes! There have been many, but one that sticks out very clearly had concerned a young lad who I read for. As I tuned in, I saw within my mind a large, Great White shark coming up and out of the water, its eyes as black as tar with its jaws protruding in its attack-mode. I felt my right leg disappear and wondered what on earth had happened. It turned out a mate or cousin of his (can’t recall exactly how they were related) had been on a small boat with mates, drinking and throwing raw meat into the ocean in a part of Australia to entice one of these ocean beasts. The deceased had jumped overboard, close to where their boat lay as a joke, and the shark had gotten him then. He died as a result of his leg being severed by the shark!
Many people view paranormal phenomena sceptically. What would you say to those on the fence about the existence of spirits or other supernatural entities?
It matters not concerning their structured belief-system. At the end of the day, if people believe there is no life after death, then that’s fine. We develop as humans and have an awareness of self which starts to develop around the age of five upwards. We take it for granted that we are here, on earth and alive, and have no way of knowing otherwise. It seems odd that through their incarnation, and beyond that process we call death, many deny their own existence in terms of there being no survival of ‘spirit’ beyond the constraints of its biological vehicle. Research is exploring interdimensional theories which points suspiciously to the fact that alternate realities are able to temporarily interlock into this matrix, and this has everything to do with energy and vibrations. If people don’t believe in any of this, then I have no issues with this whatsoever. People demand proof, but whatever little we have, it will never be enough to convince an already programmed mind-set. That is, of course, until something supernatural happens to them!
How would you describe the spirit world as you perceive it? Do spirits have distinct personalities, or do they appear as a collective presence?
That’s an interesting question, but we believe the ‘Spirit World’ as we loosely term it is perhaps an area which fluctuates on a higher level of vibrational frequency. Rather like the signal to your mobile phone, its hardware that you hold in your hand is merely a translator which is able to connect and relay information in a language we can understand from its primary source of origin through the ‘physical’ instrumentation of your device. If we didn’t know how mobile phones work, for instance, we wouldn’t know anything about those unique signals in the first place which our ordinary five senses cannot detect, where they are emanating from, along with what information is being carried in them in the first place. So, using a simple analogy, the body is merely the vessel, and consciousness those signals which interconnect to the main hub of all consciousness, rather like your mobile phone. We receive only a small fraction of information due to our restricted processing of consciousness through the brain which merely serves as the filter to hold us within this reality, albeit for a brief period of time. The ‘Spirit World’ is merely a transmutation of one energy exchange to another, and the spirit of which will be released from earth and return to its original source of origin. The ‘Other Side’ is a more advanced copy of the ‘earth’ we are living in at the moment. We are still working to assess the ‘how’s’ and ‘why’s’ using data from NDEers (Near-Death Experience), along with theoretical models based primarily from ancient codices from the past, and which we believe has been largely hidden from the public, including those other areas of the paranormal we are eager to explain.
Have you ever communicated with spirits that have provided you with information beyond what you might have expected? How do these communications influence your view of life and death?
It’s more the other way round! It is very hard to get anything back from ‘Spirit’ when asking questions. As a relay (which a medium merely is) we are at the mercy of their transference of information which comes mostly as thought projection and sensory integration. Sure, we all talk to them on the Other Side when alone, pouring out our heart and problems, and very occasionally, you may get a sign, like a feather being left somewhere unique, or many of the other varied levels of high strangeness which people encounter. I’m sure they are able to ‘hear’ and ‘sense’ us, but this can be frustrating for us when we seek clarity in terms of our own personal gain. Working as a mere conduit is no problem, but on a private level, hardly anything comes through which benefits ‘you’ personally. I have had moments of illumination, so it’s possible that ‘Spirit’ is helping us all in some way, and even in times when we’re not even aware of it.
For those new to paranormal investigations, what advice would you give? Are there specific practices or techniques you recommend ensuring a safe experience?
Honesty is priority number one! Please be true to yourself and work within a more-or-less scientific level of thinking. We are, after all, seeking proof of ‘Spirit’ survival, and not fame! There are those within the spiritual movement who are anything but! I cannot tell you how many times I have come across those whose ego could recreate the ‘supposed’ Big Bang! Opening in any prayer that suits you is also important, as words are ‘spells’ (as in spell-ing), or casting a conscious intention from this realm to another. Honouring those within alternate dimensions of awareness is also important, because most of them had been like you to begin with! An open and honest heart works wonders, as like-attracts-like, so they say!
Do you believe there are different types of spirits or entities, and if so, how do you differentiate between them? Are there signs that help you recognize the nature of a spirit?
Absolutely! Yes! We are working on a new theory (and something which I cannot really mention here) but has everything to do with how we have been ‘led’ to believe that certain categories within what we call the so-called ‘paranormal’ appear separate in nature, and which we also consider is anything but! After all, we have the Dogman (Werewolf), Sasquatch, aliens, and so forth, and which also serves to remind us that varied patterns and traits are interesting to the prospective researcher when exploring such a phenomenon. I believe the corrupt ‘system’ which governs all of us (and not those within governmental positions who are, themselves, nothing less than puppets for their masters) knows more, and knowledge which has been deliberately hidden from the masses. The signs are quite common within varied sectors, not only in ghosts, but also Cryptids and aliens. Fear is largely an emotion which your energy will be felt by those forces operating upon within hidden dimensions of reality. Love and light will attract the complete opposite. You’ll definitely know which vibrational polarity you’ve attracted by sensing it. After all, the human body is an antenna in any case.
How do you prepare mentally or spiritually before engaging in paranormal work, and do you find that this influences your experiences?
I send out a prayer of protection out into the ether before engaging in any form of paranormal investigation, whether that be UFO hunting, Cryptid investigations, or mediumship. I remember years ago, and when I’d had an article published back in 1996 detailing the theoretical angle with the famous ‘Grey’ aliens, and how it was they are able to draw us into ‘their’ domain; I had made a connection with the astral body of the human, along with assuming that we may be dealing with something other than ‘alien.’ I mean, how the hell are the greys able to get us through solid material like walls and doors? Ah, but some people have it all worked out there! I don’t, but theory is the best way forward, and I’ve been credited there in any case, and something I am enormously proud of. The backlash, however, from many was that they couldn’t get it! Now look and see where we are in terms of research, and how attitudes have changed. We have to look outside the box of conventional thinking in order to progress; otherwise, we’re going to be stuck in terms of what may be the ultimate answer which we’ve been missing all along. In fact, we’ve been going around in circles for quite some time regarding what ‘they’ are and where they are emanating from. We are living in exciting times where these matters are concerned. Someone once asked me how I mentally deal with all of this. My answer was, ‘I’m not sure, really!’ But I’m mentally tough, and grounded, and I think that’s the best way to be, otherwise I’d crack! Seriously, you need a sense of humour in all of this too, and that’s a good thing, because it breaks the monotony when thinking about this most of the time.
How do you interpret your role as a medium in modern paranormal studies? Do you feel perceptions are shifting toward embracing mediumship in investigations?
In my estimation, mediumship has always been based on ‘evidence’ of ‘spirit survival.’ This is the most important facet within all areas of psychical research and investigations. I feel it’s important to bring a medium into such areas, as this helps to corroborate what the investigators themselves are picking up and which may aid their inquiries. I dealt with a poltergeist case many years ago (and, yes, they are real – trust me on that one!) but was unable to identify the cause. There’s no shame in putting your hand up and saying, ‘I don’t know’ when a medium is not sure as to what’s going on. You’ll get more respect in the long run. Perceptions are, however, changing, and an area of the human mind which has been subjugated for centuries into the annals of extended mental ‘non-existence’ is teaching us to get in touch with those amazing areas of higher consciousness which the churches, among others, condemned as evil. I think it’s the reverse, actually!
Lastly, how has your work as a medium shaped your understanding of the afterlife? Do you believe the spirit world interacts with ours for a specific reason?
I have always wanted the TRUTH! When I was a kid, I just couldn’t get my head around the fact that people lived, worked, asked very few questions, and then died! This truly horrified me in varied ways. We live by (to my mind) a medieval system which is more inclined to base ‘facts’ on faith (which cannot be proven) and leaves it at that. My work as a medium is merely the tip of the iceberg in terms of clarity, along with discovering why we are here. Ok, so I get it, and again, many have the answers to all of this, but I don’t! Shocked! Yes, well good, because again, it’s fact! However, we have hope, and our investigations, research, and work offer us a glimpse into alternate dimensions of reality which connect with ours and which also categorically proves there is so much more to the material realm in which we exist. If anything, I offer that hope to those going through grief, or hard times themselves. Beyond the hardness which life displays, there is a heart and spirit within each of us. We are all connected. All we want is for others to shine their light for all to see and allow them the right to exist within all their glory. The Spirit World serves to remind all of us that there IS so much more than the oftentimes mundane existence we are experiencing now.
