The Brown Brothers Haunting Hour Podcast Interview

If you’ve been following Mystic Realm Blog for a while, you’ll know I love shining a light on creators who are doing something truly special in the paranormal world. Recently, I had the chance to connect with Ryan and Tyler Brown. Two brothers, former paranormal investigators, and the voices behind the Brown Brothers Haunting Hour Podcast.

Their show dives into everything from chilling ghost stories and true crime cases to legends that blur the line between history and horror. What sets them apart is not only their background in paranormal investigating, but also their genuine passion for the subjects they cover.

As someone who’s spent a lot of time exploring haunted history, I found their perspective fascinating. Their mix of deep research, honest storytelling, and creative sound design makes their podcast one of the most compelling I’ve come across in the paranormal space.

I reached out to the brothers for a Q&A to find out more about their journey, inspirations, and the spooky stories that have stayed with them — and they didn’t disappoint.

Q&A with the Brown Brothers

Ryan and Tyler Brown Brothers Haunting hour

Could you introduce yourselves and tell us the story of how the Brown Brothers Haunting Hour Podcast began?
We are brothers who are former paranormal investigators, and both have a huge passion for all things horror. Our podcast is titled Brown Brothers Haunting Hour where we dive into a different paranormal topic each week. We cover all things from true crime to ghost stories, anything with a spooky undertone to the legend or story.

What first inspired your love for the paranormal?
Early film and literature were the two main influences for our love of the paranormal at a young age. Films such as Jaws, Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street really gave us horrifying visuals to spark this interest. Literature from Stephen King such as It and his compilation of short stories in Graveyard Shift sent the inevitable chill down our spines that we grew to crave. We also both graduated from the University of Maine where King was a professor for a short time. Living in this section of Maine and reading one of his novels gave horror a whole new meaning.

How did the podcast evolve from your paranormal investigations?
As we started to filter out of paranormal investigating, we still wanted a platform where we could discuss haunted locations, paranormal events, and just our love for horror in general. We thought a podcast would be a perfect platform for this. Since day 1 we’ve always said that we don’t care if we have 1 listener or 1 million, we are doing this because we genuinely love talking about this stuff.

Has there been a particular episode that really stuck with you?
One episode that has stuck with us ever since recording it was Ep. 74 Haunted Funeral Homes. This episode was very eye-opening to us as we talked about how powerful hauntings can be in specific buildings, and how long a spirit can follow a deceased body. An episode that kept us up at night for sure.

How do you research your episodes?
We spend a good week to week and a half researching a topic that peaks our intrigue at that time. Occasionally we will line up a topic with an event that is happening in real time. For example, we released our episode on The Smurl Family Haunting during the week the movie The Conjuring: Last Rites hit theaters, which is based on that true story.

Do you have a preference for certain kinds of topics?
Both of us prefer covering topics that have supernatural or paranormal elements in them compared to other horror topics. Not only are they more interesting to us (who doesn’t love a ghost story or an added supernatural component to a true crime case?) but our years of paranormal investigating gives us a perspective that most other podcasts aren’t able to generate.

What approach do you take when covering sensitive true crime or paranormal cases?
We like to always put facts first when covering our topics. We also really want our listeners to be the ones to generate their own opinions on supernatural cases (even though we usually tend to lean on the paranormal side of things). True Crime cases should always be handled with respect, especially if they are recent events or unsolved cases without much closure. Victims deserve this when having their story in the public eye.

Can you tell us more about the production and sound design side of your show?
Ryan produces the podcast and has a strong interest in sound design. We want our show to have scary/tension-building sound effects during the intro of the show, and also fun snippets from TV shows, music, and movies that we love. This gives a lighter feel during scary moments, and allows our listeners to get to know us a little better.

Have your listeners influenced your choice of topics?
Absolutely they have. We ask our listeners after most of our episodes to DM us if they have specific topics they’d like to hear us cover, or if they have ideas Ryan and I may not have heard of. Most recently, a good friend of ours told us to look into the Rocky Point Amusement Park located in RI, which turned out to be one of our most downloaded episodes!

How do you balance skepticism and belief when covering paranormal events?
Every paranormal investigation or basic discussion of supernatural events should always be viewed through a skeptical lens. Being able to debunk paranormal events as naturally occurring phenomena will give your audience trust in you. This allows you to carry yourself with clout regarding the supernatural, and not make your audience think you are spewing lies for views.

Are there any dream topics you’d love to cover?
We would love to have a full episode discussing the folklore around the town of Sleepy Hollow, NY. One of our favorite antagonists of all time is The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow, and we think a topic covering this would be a fantastic dive into the supernatural.

Where can listeners find you if they want to tune in or get in touch?
The best way to reach out to us is through Instagram — you can find us @brownbrothershauntinghour — or email us at brownbroshantinghour@gmail.com.

Finally, do you have any advice for aspiring podcasters who want to start their own show?
A little simple yet critical advice we would give anyone trying to start their own podcast would be that you NEED to be passionate about your podcast idea. If you bring the passion and your listeners hear how interested you yourself are in the topics that you bring to them, you’ll succeed as a podcaster. We are also huge advocates of sound quality — your first episode should be just as high quality as your most recent.

Round Up…

A big thank you to the Brown Brothers for taking the time to share their story with Mystic Realm Blog. What I love most about their podcast is the authentic passion behind it — they’re not chasing numbers, but creating something they truly love, and that comes across in every episode.

If you’re into paranormal investigations, horror films, chilling true crime, or just love a good ghost story told with honesty and flair, the Brown Brothers Haunting Hour podcast is one you won’t want to miss.
