Since 2020, this group has been exploring the mysteries of the afterlife, delving into dark tourism, and exploring haunted locations that most of us only hear about. I’d like to thank Void Between Worlds for agreeing to this interview, and I can’t wait to share their fascinating insights with you. So Let’s get into it!
1. Can you tell us about Void Between Worlds and what initially drew you to the paranormal field?
Absolutely! Void Between Worlds was established in 2020 with Cyrus and Kayla in upstate New York. Cyrus’s journey into dark tourism began in 2016, but she always had a passion for the dark, macabre, and mysterious aspects of life (and the afterlife!) One experience that made her gravitate even further into the paranormal was when she visited a local antique shop with her mother and sister. She and her sister heard a disembodied voice of a woman’s giggle. At this point in time, there were no other people or electronics that could have caused this to occur.
Kayla’s story with the paranormal began with an experience at the age of 18. In the early 2000s, she and her sister received a voicemail from her aunt that also included a message from beyond the grave. The voice of her grandmother was inexplicably captured in this voicemail stating, “I love you”; she had passed away years prior. Although a sceptic at heart, this has since opened up her interest in researching and exploring the unexplained.
To explain our group dynamic: Kayla and Cyrus are Bianca’s aunts, while Aiden is Bianca’s fiancé. Bianca and Aiden joined Void Between Worlds in 2022. They both had childhood experiences that would chill anyone to the bone, which undoubtedly fuelled their passion for the unknown. Bianca recalls having a special friend at the age of seven; years later it was determined that this friend was from the other side. She has recently come to terms with her mediumship abilities and has embraced this connection with wanting to know what is beyond the veil. Aiden has had poltergeist-like activity in his childhood home that included drawers and cabinets opening and closing as well as seeing shadow figures. This has left him with more questions than answers about the afterlife.
We came up with the name Void Between Worlds since we believe there is more to this life than just our world; there are times where we believe the veil between the spiritual realm and the physical world is thin enough where spirits/vibrational beings are able to make contact. We chose to have a portal depicted behind the letters of the logo to convey a gateway to the other world.
2. What was your first memorable paranormal investigation, and how did it shape your journey?
Our first memorable paranormal investigation would definitely have to be in 2022 at the Mid Orange Correctional Facility. We experienced intelligent communication with flashlights, disembodied voices, spirit box communication, as well as unexplained bangs that surrounded us. These experiences were documented and posted on our social media, which captured our raw responses to what we were experiencing at that moment.
We believe we may have made contact with an individual who served time while there. It was extremely memorable due to the fact that you do not always capture activity at every location you investigate. There are some locations where you may capture evidence during one investigation, while other times there is dead silence (no pun intended). It’s important to remember the paranormal realm is not performative; the spiritual realm does not owe us communication or activity. Overall, the heavy atmosphere at that location is definitely one we will always remember.
3. Are there particular methods or tools you prefer to use during your investigations? Why?
The equipment we use during our investigations includes flashlights, voice recorders, a video camera, a spirit box (or multiple), EMF detectors, Flux V2, a laser grid, Paratek, and other motion sensor devices. We are always open to experimenting with new tools to improve and gather different pieces of evidence.
One method we enjoy using is called the “Estes Method.” This method involves having an individual blindfolded with headphones that are connected to a spirit box. The headphones and blindfold are to ensure there are no outside influences in the responses to the questions that are being asked. Another individual will then ask questions while the person who is blindfolded will repeat what they are hearing on the spirit box. This is done with the intent of hopefully receiving responses relevant to what was being asked. Some folks may chalk this up to “just a coincidence,” but when you receive coherent responses to several queries asked in succession, it becomes pretty difficult to come up with a logical explanation as to why that occurred.
4. What’s the most unexpected or eerie experience you’ve encountered during your investigations?
Our most unexpected experiences were actually at our latest investigation at Pennhurst Asylum (also known as Pennhurst State School and Hospital). This historically tragic location was our most active investigation. The moment we began to investigate, we had activity occur within a short timeframe. At this location we used our Flux and received responses in almost every building; we have used this device at other locations and it has never picked up any unseen motion.
This tool detects temperature spikes/drops and motion on the left and right sides where the sensors are located. Once motion is detected, a light and sound will be activated, which will indicate which side the motion has been detected. You can then associate each side with “yes” or “no,” “male” or “female,” and so on. While using this device, we believe we were able to make contact with a teen boy named Brian that was admitted to this facility. We heard unexplained whispers, bangs, and disembodied voices.
Kayla, who is notably the most sceptical of the group (every group needs one), experienced her hair being touched while Bianca saw it move as it happened. Bianca experienced seeing her first apparition in a doorway prior to one device going off. Cyrus even experienced feeling a gust of wind pass her by as if someone (who was not visible) walked by. The experiences we had at this location were just mind-blowing, and we cannot wait to return!
5. How do you prepare yourself mentally and physically before going into a potentially haunted or charged space?
We prepare prior to each investigation by delving into the history of the location. We separate what has been deemed factual historical information and the lore of what has been rumoured to have occurred. The haunt/paranormal aspect of the location is then explored along with looking into what has been experienced.
As with any location, always go with your guards up, as you do not know entirely of the energies you may come across. We mentally prepare by ensuring we get plenty of rest the night before, going in with a clear mind and expecting nothing.
6. What challenges do you typically face during your investigations, and how do you overcome them?
Hmmmm challenges we face during investigations… I don’t think we have ever truly thought about or faced any significant challenges. Perhaps that sometimes it can be a bit tedious? As we have previously mentioned, you don’t always capture activity at locations and are sometimes sitting in dark rooms talking into the abyss with no response hahaha.
BUT that just comes with the territory. We don’t ever expect to witness activity; however, when we do, it’s great! Even during uneventful nights, we are still grateful to have the opportunity to do what we do and explore these spooky locations.
7. Is there a specific case or investigation that has profoundly affected your understanding of the paranormal?
One case in particular (out of many) that has impacted our understanding of the spiritual world is the Old Arnold Estate, built in 1736. Located in Harrisville, Rhode Island, this house is also widely known as the Conjuring House. The hauntings that have been said to have occurred can be almost described as layerings of hauntings. From apparitions, disembodied voices, poltergeist activity, and physical injuries caused by unseen forces, even UFO sightings have all been reported at this location.
While also being rumoured to be a portal, no wonder there have been many strange occurrences on the property. We were fortunate to meet Ms. Andrea Perron and listen to her firsthand account of what she and her family lived through. For those of you unfamiliar with the case, Andrea was the eldest of the sisters who experienced the paranormal happenings on the property.
8. How do you approach skeptics when discussing the evidence or experiences you’ve gathered?
We welcome all of the skeptical minds. As we mentioned previously, Kayla is probably the biggest skeptic of the group. Prior to investigating, Kayla can say she was definitely less of a believer until she experienced what we have during our investigations.
We generally like to explain the devices we use, how they operate, and share what we believe occurred in whatever evidence we captured. When we collect evidence, we first go through processes to determine if it can be recreated by a natural occurrence or has a logical explanation. We vet our evidence to ensure what we capture are actual events that cannot be explained as natural occurring phenomena. We welcome all questions!
9. What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own journey into paranormal investigation?
For the paranormal enthusiasts out there who would like to take part in an investigation, our advice is to DO IT! Life is too short to be left wondering “what if” or “I think that’s really cool, and I’m interested in this thing but not too sure how to go about it.”
We were all beginners at one point in time, and we learn as we go. You do not need fancy or expensive equipment to begin. A cell phone, a flashlight, and plenty of research is all you need to begin your journey. Lastly, go in with an open mind, try to disprove what you have captured, but most of all, enjoy yourself.
